Why A Newt?

What’s Up With The Newt?

Yes, there is a story behind our newt logo. When we first had the idea to put on a tarot symposium in the northwest we were looking around at similar events across the country. The one closest to us is BATS (Bay Area Tarot Symposium). Jay made a joke about how if they are bats then we would have to be newts. So our name became the Northwest Tarot Symposium ( or NWTS which we pronounce NeWTS).

And, as all northwestern folks know, there are a lot of newts in the area. Perfect little critters to be the mascot for the Northwest Tarot Symposium.

In 2015, our very first year, the blue and white newt was created by artist Pamela Steele. The hermit for that year’s artwork incorporates the newt on his lantern.
